global grant for spinal surgeries
Our twin Club, Mumbai SOBO has submitted a Global Grant (GG2344711) to fund spinal surgeries in rural Maharashtra.
RC Marbella Guadalmina has donated 1000€ towards this.
This is in support of the work undertaken by The Spine Foundation (TSF: https://spinefoundation.org.in/ ), where renowned spine surgeons of India dedicate time and expertise to undertake spine surgeries and rehabilitation free of cost in rural and tribal areas.
Why is this a pressing issue?
Spine-related afflictions are amongst the top 3 ailments in rural India given the intensely physical nature of farming and all manual household work (including basic necessities such as carrying drinking water from long distances). Such spine injuries directly affect the income of these families, as it prevents them from undertaking their daily work, pushing them further into poverty. Quality of life is also massively reduced.
How is impact created?
TSF’s philosophy is to bring quality spine care to the underprivileged, tribal and Below Poverty Line patients in rural areas. TSF trains local doctors and rural health care (ASHA) workers to create a sustainable eco-system for spine care.
Funds needed
Different spine surgeries cost between Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 (i.e. as per Rotary exchange = USD 305 to USD 1,220). We aim to fund 50 to 100 surgeries, while also sponsoring a critical medical equipment required in one of the Rural Spine Care Centers at Ambajogai, Maharashtra.
